
Tasty, Quick & Zero-Waste Meal with Cooky Choice Classic Basmati
Running late in the morning and not sure what to pack for lunch? We’ve got the perfect fix — Masala Rice made with leftover veggies and Cooky Choice Classic Basmati Rice. It’s flavorful, fast, and reduces kitchen waste!
Whether it’s a school lunchbox, office tiffin, or a light dinner, this masala rice never disappoints.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups cooked Cooky Choice Classic Basmati Rice (preferably from the night before)
- 1 cup chopped leftover vegetables (carrots, beans, capsicum, peas, etc.)
- 1 onion (sliced)
- 1 tomato (chopped)
- 1 green chili (optional)
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil or ghee
- Fresh coriander for garnish
- Lemon juice (optional)
Cooking Instructions:
Step 1: Heat the Pan
In a pan, heat oil or ghee. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
Step 2: Sauté the Aromatics
Add sliced onions and sauté until golden. Then, add chopped tomato and green chili. Cook until soft.
Step 3: Add Spices & Veggies
Add turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Toss in your chopped leftover veggies and cook for 4–5 minutes until tender.
Step 4: Add the Rice
Add your pre-cooked Cooky Choice Classic Basmati Rice. Mix well to coat the rice in the masala. Cook on low heat for 2–3 minutes.
Step 5: Garnish & Serve
Turn off the heat. Sprinkle fresh coriander and a squeeze of lemon juice for extra zing!
Cooky Tip:
Day-old rice works best for this dish — the grains are firm, separate, and absorb flavor beautifully. Always use Cooky Choice Classic Basmati for best results.
